The Hermès Herbag Messenger 39 is the epitome of French craftsmanship – casual, luxurious, and functional all at once. This model, launched in 2003, combines durable black canvas with fine Vache Hunter leather (cowhide). The signature Clou de Selle closure and clean lines make it the perfect companion for everyday life and business.

A lovely detail: The leather flap bears the blind stamp “FU (G)” – a typical Hermès mark. The letter “G” stands for the production year 2003, while “FU” represents the artisan code. This system demonstrates how meticulously Hermès documents each bag – every piece tells its own story.

The corresponding lock on the back of the bag, as well as the keys located under the clochette (pencil case), are of course identically numbered and bear the number 104. Why is this so important? Every Hermès lock is crafted together with a precisely matching set of keys. To ensure that only these keys open their corresponding lock, both bear the same number. These numbers are not chronological, based on models or years, but are internal workshop assignments. They serve solely for matching purposes. On authentic Hermès bags, this number is always engraved on the underside or front of the lock and on the metal head of the keys.
